I have a really nice sgt. 'rock with a serious problem: a ca. 4x5 inch hole in the front right upper arm and a nickle and a quarter-sized one same area. It's tricot. (hole looks bigger in the pic 'coz I was so close.)

the flat-wire eagle and other insignia is wartime-mounted and it has the silver-wire litze tho the rest of the "patten" is alum. the buttons are all matching, backed, nice logo'd "exta feins" tho one's separated and pinned on. sh. strap button and numeral match.

any idea what a re-weave wd. cost - preferably using wartime tricot - and even more hopefully MATCHING COLORED pieces?

and who can do this work? alternately, what about scrap pieces just swen in to "close" the holes? cheaper but hard to fit??

I'd planned to just tear the indiognia off but
really the rest of the tunic is fine - no moth tracks at all. AND the pants turned up - and they're great...

I shooda' looked closer: while the tunic is sound (mint inner belt, great insignia etc.) the top row of collar litze needs to be stitched down, collar's missing the round collar-liner studs and some of the shoulder stuffing on one side is exposed and needs tacking down - but it's there...

this 'rock hasn't been moth'd - the tears are I'm pretty sure from a large angry dog. I for my own self am a large angry OWNER.

Too bad that there is such damage to this handsome tunic. I would venture that the sleeve was chewed by mice or rats for use as nesting material. Sadly something I have seen too many times on tunics kept in attics.

Trikot is not an easy material to patch with,and as you have already indicated it would take some serious re-weaving to remedy the damage.

First off, you would need to find a close matching section of cloth, which would not be easy,unless the reweavers can remove "donor" sections from the inside fold over.

Re-weaving is a "lost" art and it is not easy to find someone skilled in this trade. A good firm, that has done work on German uniforms is the French Reweavers of California. The web address is below:

Repairing this damage will not be cheap, I would guess something in the area of about $200.00

it happens that one of the asian "reenactor" firms - the guy advertises beautiful insignia-less waffenrocks and other uniforms on ebay -
says he can send me some tricot swatches. from the pix it looks VERY close (even dangerously close!) to the german wool...

their peaked caps are also stunners as you probably already know.
