I just recently picked up a tropical tunic but the eagle was removed. Does anyone here specialize in replacing them with correct eagle and period thread or the same stitch pattern?

most any competent seamstress,shown the correct form of stitching can re-attach it for you,,if you can find an Indian(as in native India),they may do it for free...

I have never seen good work done by a modern seamstress. They jsut don't have the "feel" for what they are doing, and don't see any difference between an original sew job and the mess they make. Take your time and get it done right. I have a project just like this but have still not found the right thread to do the job.

He has a tailor who could do this. I have had cap eagles replaced and also an eagle sewn to a tropical tunic. He uses modern, but non-glowing cotton thread. If you have old yarn, send it with the piece and he will use that.

This is a lightweight summer tunic. Not a tropical tunic per se. It would not require a tropical eagle which are not easy to find and not cheap. You could go with any Bevo style enlisted man's eagle.

Yes. that would work. I am not too fond of the Afrikakorps cuff title. They were only worn for a very limited short time, early in the campain. I have serious doubts of it being original to the tunic.

My reply was not aimed at the authenticity of the cuffband. I have some originals (at least I am sure they are); comparing it to the picture provided, I believe yours is correct and period. My comment was made due to the fact that it was only worn during a very sohrt period. The tunic you have, is not one I would exprcet to be equipped with the band, it is not a tropical tunic and too late to have had it. In my view, it is a nice orignal tunic, I don't like the 'sexing it up' part. Remove the cuff title, put on the proper eagle and you'll have beautiful jacket.



EDIT: Before you go through these drastic maeasures consult somebody else as well. If it was mine I'd remove the cuff band.

Insingia is never easy to tell from pictures, but I believe you AFRIKAKORPS cufftitle is prior to 1945 - authentic. I am almost sure where it came from. Helmut Weitze. A huge roll was found 20+ years ago; never issued... But real

sorry but i dont like the cuff title,,,the open space in the "O" is oval,,should be round as on the original examples i have examined,,,

I've got that same cufftiltle in my "mistake" drawer and would not sell it as real.

I thought the cuff was neat but didnt want to "bet the farm" on it.. The price of the tunic was very reasonable so Im not out a bunch of cash because of it. Thank goodness.

In a way I think taking it off with all the holes may look worse? Maybe I can find another title that would be more fitting?
