Hi guys, just picked up a new full inscription Rohm (pics to follow (camera bust)) direct from the vets family. this dagger has sat in the vets wardrobe since he liberated it. so, in many ways it is perfect eg: blade, scabbard undented, screws unbuggered, never touched by amateurs, but the grip leaves a bit to be desired, no chips or cracks but (hard to describe!) it feels a bit rough to the touch, dried out???? and looks like it is starting to splinter up near the button, which has gone virtually black from age. can i re-hydrate this grip without causing detrimental damage? is there some type of oil recommended by the professionals for wood of this age? i want to attack this baby correctly the first time... any comments and feedback will be greatly appreciated...... thanks

I´m using on the wooden grips of my edged weapons a product called "SCHAFTOL". It´s a stock oil and works IMO very well.

Here´s a link: http://www.bitsofpieces.com/schaftol.html

I like this arrow product:

But all of them will darken the wood if dried out.
