Like many SA or SS daggers that have the unsightly gaps between the crossguards and grip due to poor MFG wood curing OR poor fitting.

You must use some common sense as this technique will only improve the problem. The problem is the wood is VERY dry due to storage heat, etc etc.

Note: this will only improve conditions it may not eliminate the gap as there as many woods and grip fits.

I tried this on a SS dagger that was stored in a warm dry environment (my House) to make a long story short the dagger I bought many moons ago never had any gaps, as the maker was known for a nice tight fit. After prolonged storage I noticed the gaps had grown! I was thinking well that stinks and how could this of be!
My solution……place the grip in a cigar humidor! I have my humidifier set at 70% humidity and the room temp is around 71 degrees. After 24 hours of storage the gaps are now gone! The key IMO is a slow VERY controlled environment or rehydration as too much moisture may split the grips.

Try it out!
