Just wondering what your thoughts on repairing blades are. A Himmler dagger has a broken tip, about 10 milimeters missing, and has been re-tipped. apart from this it is in general excellent condition throughout. first question is why it would have been broken to start with, and secondly would it be best off leaving 'as is' or getting it restored? what would the cost run into to repair, and what value would it be worth un-repaired?
cheers

Most collects think the tips were broken off to prevent the dagger falling into enemy hands intact. Like braking your sword before surrendering. The owner might have tried to break of more than the tip, but those blades are tough. A few might have been broken vet vets ot their kids.

With an ordinary dagger, a re tipped blade kills a lot of the value. With a Himmler inscription dagger, it would depend on the condition of the rest of the blade and dagger.

I never knew that was done with daggers as with swords... as for the rest of the dagger, it is in ex cond with the only negative point being a chip in the grip on the reverse, even scabbard is near 100%.. it really is in fine condition.
i can overlook the tip, but when i go to move it on, can the next owner? Eek
