I think the length from the last letter of the motto to where the blade meets the lower crossguard is the same for all SS daggers? Is it the same for all SA daggers?

I was just comparing an Eickhorn to a Carl Schmidt and the postion of the motto down the blade is positioned quite differently comparing the 2.

Scott,

My observation is that the motto of all SS daggers ends 25mm (+/- half a millimeter or so*) from the lower crossguard, with the following exceptions:

1. Small trademark Rohm daggers by Eickhorn
2. Himmler daggers

They are 35mm away +/- about half a milimeter
The one I am not sure about is the small trademark Rohm dagger made by Klass.

Dave

* The mm is fairly small and measuring tools vary, so when I see 24mm or 26mm mentioned I don't worry. Same with 34mm or 36mm.

Thanks Dave.

I missed the motto length thread that Rev had pointed out on the SA's and was concerned that the SA lengths were pretty much uniform like the SS's... I thought I nearly had a problem... Smile

I was hoping that more people would contribute, sort of like the Gau mark thread. As it is, I was the only one to offer a substantial data set. I listed several outliers and was wondering if they were characteristic of the individual maker or not.
