Has anyone seen one like this before. I have bought and sold many SA daggers before but have never seen one with the motto and eagle swaz removed like this. It looks like it would be a nice transitional SA by Eickhorn , shame !!! The pictures are not the best but they are all I have been sent.
It poses the question was the motto ever there in the first place !!! The guy who sent me the pictures states that although there is some scratching to the obverse side of the blade it does not look as though a grinding wheel has been taken to the blade (which would have been required I think to completely remove the motto). Any thoughts ?
What is the story with yours Stan. Whas there ever a motto or does it look as if it has always been a plain blade? Do you think these were blades that were used up at the end of the war to make souveniers? Best wishes. Ian
Hi Ian, on the one I posted,it looks as if it has never had a Motto or maker mark. The spine of the blade is straight and no sign of grinding. On one side of the blade the spine runs off centre towards the tip. I just bought it for the grip, xguards and scabbard for $150. Regards Stan
At the end of the war, the Eickhorn factory was looted, and many soldiers came back with blank blades, unfinished blades, and blades that were factory rejects..
Much of what was left after the marauding troops had departed, and things calmed down a bit, were packaged up and sold to allied soldiers of all stripes..
The mystery of these daggers, is that we may never know anything of the history of them
