I had been looking for a Haenel. The seller described this dagger as being a part of a mannequin full dress display for 40 years. I was the only bidder.

The purple brown scabbard has 100% anodizing and about 97% lacquer. The grip is typical Haenal. It appears to have a light coat of original varnish.

Hello skyline, Congratulations on buying a beautiful dagger, Typical Haenel.I wonder why all the Suhl made daggers are of such high quality. The price you paid looks a bargain, compared what some people are paying for daggers, that are nowhere near the condition of yours,Enjoy it. regards nats

It can be done! That is a fan - tastic Haenel condition is superb. Ebay still holds some surprises.

Good job. You took the auction risk and won the prize.

Auction risk? Heck Ron, I've done that about 100 or more times so far. Only bad SA I ever got was at the SOS in 2004...from a dealer no less!

Whomever said that the internet has made us all dealers is truly correct. I would have loved to see the old motel buys you had in the days before the web, but I think the internet can be a valuable tool for collectors who know the risks and make solid contact with the seller before the close of the auction. Due diligence, if you know how to do it.

Beautiful. Cool

There is a Haenel here locally owned by a non-collector. It is stone cold mint. Am trying to get it...

Great dagger.

Did you ask the seller what happened to the rest of the display?

Ron... I am a seasoned Ebay buyer and seller. I have bought and sold hundreds of auction items. There was very little risk to me in this purchase because I had additional photos from the seller. Similar to Mark, my worst experience with daggers was purchasing one from a big name dealer that was not described properly. There are also dealers I will never do business with because I have no time for know-it-all personalities. My dollars will go elsewhere.
