Here is another one of them there non-textbook types I picked up about, oh, 15 years ago. I know it isn't in the same price league as the earlier discussed 'Ehrendolch' but it looked great to me and I kinda liked it. Fixed it up a bit, too. After all, I wanted it to look at its best. Its a Marine NSKK, probably transitional.

Manfred, Neat looking piece whatever it is! I have noticed a few of these around with the anchor on the scabbard tip (one at gun-broker.com a while back, one at a dealers sight, and one at one of the BIG dealers sights). Don't remember who the makers were on each particular dagger. I wonder what are peoples thoughts on these with the anchor on them? I have seen just enough of these to make them a bit of a hard-sell for me. Neat dagger though! Charlie

This is a Marine NSKK dagger with personal enhancement. These were worn by the motorboat units of the NSKK, and the anchor symbolizes marine service. Some daggers have the anchor engraved on the top or bottom fittings.

Did it have leather on the scabbard when you got it, or is that the part you "fixed up"? Smile

I didn't add anything. The old leather was dryrotted with rust trapped underneath. I also regilted the fittings. The blade was in decent shape with only a few scratches that I buffed out.

Here are some more pics! The only Anchor on this one is a small one on the Tang! Anybody else ever seen it there? The plating is kind of a Coppery / Gold wash. The little anchor is on the front of the blade tang.

Manfred - very nice display as usual. Very unique as well with that anchor on the lower fitting. I didn't know about the motorboat units if the NSKK.

Louie - neat dagger and very interesting anchor on the tang. I have never seen that before.

Thanks Borse, Other than some minor cleaning and oiling, I have never touched anything on this Dagger! The gilding / Plating is 90+% Original! Really excellent condition! 3FL

Hey Louie: Over the years I have seen a few of these Marine NSKK daggers, some with painted and some anodized scabbards. The original plating was done with an copper/gold alloy plating solution. It was 75% copper and 25% gold and was referred to as quarter gold (viertel gold). The copper was for resistance to the marine environment and the gold kept the copper from oxidizing too soon. In addition, gold by itself was getting pretty rare at the time.

Hey Manfred, Love yours with the Anchor on the scabbard tip. Mine is definately not an NSKK, I don't think, as the scabbard is the standard painted Chocolate Brown! 3FL

Hey Manfred! I was going to ask you, Is the anchor on the scabbard tip on yours Applied like a seperate piece soldered on? or is it like pressed out of one piece of metal that forms the shoe? 3FL

Louie: So sorry about the delay. I didn't realize you posted a question after your last post.
The anchor is soldered on and not embossed.

Hey Manfred, I am impressed! Thank you so much for making the effort to come back and answer that. Hey can you do me a favor and send me / or post again the photo that shows the anchor on yours? I forgot what it looks like.

Thanks again! 3FL

Hi Kursk, Cool! But it was my understanding that this type of mark was only found on the Marine Unit Daggers. Is yours just like this one? Do you have any pics you could post? Apparently this is a maker of blade blanks that uses this mark because mine is a Horster. Thanks for sharing.

3FL
