Is anyone still collecting SA Daggers by maker?

My modest collection has seven different SAs

Decent SA's now routinely go for over a grand. With 220 or so makers what does simple math tell you?

Ron, I am, but very selectively and depends highly on condition. No RZM's though.

Ah, past tense...still collecting? I was until about 12 years ago, got up to over 120 makers, but figured I'd never get them all. I've kept the best 2 or 3 dozen though.
If someone could afford to buy all those offered by Houston C., they'd be off to a good start! John Merling vintagetime@yahoo.com MAX Life member OVMS Life member(Ohio Valley Military Society SOS) OGCA Life member(Ohio Gun Collectors Assoc) NRA Life member |

Again, past tense. I attempted to collect all the "non-Solingen" makers and got almost all of them, 38 makers in total.

Same here with reguards to "past tense". With 86 SA/NSKK daggers, do I really need any more? Yea, sure I'd like to get all the makers, including all the variations, but the prices have gotten insane. I passed up a nice SA (McSARR 9) a few weeks ago, I just can't see paying that much.

Me too, SA & SS but I never got very far with the SA. I figured out how many SA there were and just concentrated on SS.
Actually, the SS turned out to be more affordable. They were about 4x the price of SA but there were not that many compared to over 200 SA makers. Besides, I always wanted SS daggers more than SA. I've still got a few SAs. An Emil Voos, my very first dagger ever. A couple of early "A" examples, plus a few more that were too good to pass up at the price. Dave |

I’m also interested in these daggers. But I try to find those of them which has been made no more than 4000.

Have been collecting the early SA's and getting only McSarr 9 and 10s for about five years now. The quality of manufacture and the pride put into the workmanship of the early daggers just amaze me. Up to 81 on the daggers now, but with the prices doubling over those five years, further collecting has become difficult.

Hey Dave, can you post some pics of your 'early A' SA's? I have one and I sure would like to see a couple more to compare it with.

kingtiger ... wow ... what a great piece with early motto.
This is something I would love to have in my collection. How much is one of those today? How rare are these "early A" SA´s? |

kingtiger, can you post a picture of the makers mark please? |

I also collect SA's by maker, but they became quite hard to find here in Belgium, so the collecting goes slowlier... but if you find one by a new maker... the greater the pleasure is!
I also do not mind to have 2 or more by the same maker, if they have a makersmark variation or a different grip. No RZM's for me, but transitionals are fine. Best greetings, Herman "Het leven is een strijd!" |

Depending on condition, they are in the $4000-5000 range.

Mark,
I am not going to post pictures for a while. There are quite a few outright fakes out there plus a few "put togethers" which have some real parts and ... some real but later parts. I want to be sure of what I am saying. Dave |

The maker mark on mine..a ground Rohm as all the early ones were...or should be.
This one is an E P & S., the other accepted maker is Eickhorn. Mark "I'm your huckleberry, that's just my game" ![]() |

OK, the answer to the question of this thread is: WHO CAN AFFORD IT TODAY??????
Personally, I am looking for Horse marks (Axt und Hauer Fabrik, Meltzer und Feller, Neuhause, ASSO,and Kober. (anything with a horse element within it) I am also interested in ANYTHING with a "DOG" mark (such as Bulldog or Seilheimer, etc.) Good luck to all other collectors on their quests, I know how tough it can be, Johnny Silver Badge #0398 My Avatar = My dagger security system! |

Dave, if you post some of yours...you can find out real quick if they are real. I can't understand your reluctance to post pictures, especially since you told us you have TWO 'early A' SA's.. Do you think you may have some fakes? Do you think the one I posted is a fake? I am in somewhat of a quandry here.
What is your fear? That is what this dagger site is for I thought? No offense meant.... Mark "I'm your huckleberry, that's just my game" |

Dave:
I know you have been collecting information on these early SA motto variants for years. Why don't you compose a little article on these and post it here? Surely you aren't just saving all the information for Wittmann's book (when ever it makes an appearance!!!). We know the site has been slow for some time and it appears I have started a thread that is sparking some interest, so add to it and make this site a "have to visit to keep up" event.
