I've seen several mottos on blades that I believe is too close to the tip - too far away from the lower crossbar.

Here's an exampel.

I'd like to hear what do you think - and what do you think of the RZM 7/49 mark?

It could be the photo angle that is throwing you off.
I'd be more concerned that the crossgiuard is Gau stamped. This should always be a red flag on an RZM that you have a parts piece...

You need better photos, shot at 90 degrees, for anyone to give an honest opinion.

Odd looking lower crossguard fitting. It could be the photos but it looks like the bottom part of the fitting is flat. Normally they are fitted to the curvature of the blade .

Yes – well the question actually was regarding the position of the motto.

I’ve seen more blades where it looks like the motto is too close to the tip – this is what interest me – could this be an indication of a copy?

Eickhorn SA Mottos are further down the blade than other makers, all my Eicks have the motto lower, don't know if it applies to ALL Eickhorn SAs though...

Sorry, it is NOT likely that any dagger can have a motto far down the blade. I have measured the distance on many daggers and the ONLY ones with a distance of about 35mm away from the crossguard are the Eickhorn small oval daggers - SA or SS.

ALL other daggers varied between 23.71mm to 26.3mm away from the crossguard. The design specification was 25mm.

If anyone else has more measurements, please post them, especially if the are more than 25mm.
