I display my daggers in a case out of their scabbards. I want to protect the blades from rust, fingerprints, etc. I understand that wiping them down after handling is important but I feel I should do more. I'd hate to end up with a missed fingerprint!
I have read various opinions on renwax and simichrome and recently bought some simichrome.
But now that I have it I'm a bit scared to apply it!
How are you guys protecting your SA blades? If you are using simichrome can you give me some tips (like how you do it?)
Thanks

If you wipe down your blades with simichrome you will damage them. It will remove crossgrain and burnishing. Oh, I know some will say only aggressive cleaning will do that. BS. Simichrome contains an abrasive and it removes metal EVERY time it is used. If you need to wipe down your blades use a soft cotton cloth like an old t-shirt. It will remove oils left by fingerprints and other residue without removing metal. The best way to keep your blades virgin is to not touch them. Clean the blade once with a sudsy ammonia and hot water solution and then keep your fingers off the blade.

I use Renwax on my exposed blades. You can also spray with a silicone spray and let air dry-protects against fingerprints. Mike

Simichrome is for "zombie" blades...those that are dead but still live. The stuff can only improve the most foul blades that have no crossgrain left to begin with. It does contain an abrasive and it will remove fine crossgrain.

I am a Renwax man and once a year it goes on them all.

I am with the majority here... Renwax. And, like Mark, once a year to reapply.

Thanks, all.
Just ordered some Renwax. Who needs an unused tube of simichrome? Smile

Hang on to it.

Simichrome is very good for blades that do not have crossgrain or chemically darkened mottos or any highlighted panels. Plated sword or dagger blades, for example.

It is also excellent for cleaning nickel silver fittings. Use it lightly and you can take the crud off by layers.
