Here is a vertical hanger in my collection and I've been thinking, after reading thru some of my refernces is this hanger actually attributed to the SA or could it actually be an NSKK hanger. Any thoughts?

That one is a teaser. Lack of answer = no one is sure enough, but I will hazard a guess

The "L2" stamp (if that is what it is) is usually seen on black leather NSKK. The interesting part, besides a black hanger on an SA dagger, is the missing large carrying ring.

Hope this generates more theories

My guess is that it is original to the dagger if it cannot be removed. It may have been sewn in place around the scabbard. I have a similar one that cannot be removed but it is brown with no RZM mark.

Skyline, it's original to the piece, the age around it on the scabbard is a dead giveawy and it won't budge on it either. The dagger is marked Sw for sudwest and is an Ascoloupe mfg.

Here's an NSKK prototype that also covers the entire upper scabbard fitting

Being black IMO strongly indicates NSKK but also possibly the SA Wehrmannschaft(sp) who may have used black leather.
All of these RZM type frogs are extremely rare indicating IMO very limited experimental use. In some cases they seem to be converted to bayonet frogs-because they have a stud hole-- or were dual purpose pieces for the Wehrmannschaft. We really know very little about any of these.
