Just wanted to show off a pair of daggers that after 4 years, I just purchased from the living veteran who returned with them from the war. Enjoy the photos.

They are unissued, with very minor age from the past 60 years.

It's been a good two weeks - 2 SS TK Rings, an Antipartisan Badge, these two daggers, and the shooting prize sword. Now, I'm off on my vacation!

Craig,
Fishing for stuff has been kinda tight here in SD. Last score I had were 2 RZM SA's, both of which I sold. I take it you purchased these in town?

Actually, they were not. I had made contact with the veteran 4 years ago, and we kept in contact. We finally agreed upon a price, and consumated the deal. Daggers arrived today. Not a huge score by any means, but it was nice putting money in the hands of a living veteran.

What is strange is that he told me he took these off of not one, but two, soldiers who were surrendering to his MP unit. I don't doubt him, but I find it somewhat puzzling that two guys would be carrying unissued political daggers by the same maker. Makes me think that a) the german soldiers were carrying them to surrender to allied troops in hopes of gaining better treatment (and had themselves pilfered them from a uniform shop) or else, b) the vets memory is fading. However, he was VERY lucid, and wrote me very detailed letters of his actions, including his recollection that the soldiers he got these from were wearing green uniforms, and were "ready to quit."

Maker is a bit scarce also - M7/12 Carl Robert Kaldenbach I believe.

CRAIG-
TWO VERY NICE DAGGERS. I BOUGHT SIX UNISSUED RZM S A DAGGERS FROM A VET YEARS AGO. HE HAD A SIMILAR STORY TO YOURS. MORE THAN LIKELY, THE DAGGERS WERE PICKED UP IN A RZM STORE OR SOME SIMILAR FACILITY. GAINING SOUVENIRS FROM THE ENEMY IS A BETTER STORY THAN GETTING THEM OUT OF A STORE OR A WAREHOUSE. MORE THAN LIKELY, THE STORY WAS TOLD SO MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS THAT THIS IS WHAT THE MAN BELIEVES. MY THOUGHTS FOR WHAT THEY ARE WORTH

Over 40 years of collecting I have bought three daggers that were "taken right off the belt of Hermann Goring when he surrendered". Last one was 30 years ago in a garage behind the vet's house in Dallas, TX. He sold me an SA for $6.00 in front of his son. The vet stated that he was puzzled as to why HG was wearing an SA dagger but he was..........Point of all this is that the vet had probably told stories like this so many times they even came to believe them themselves...........He knew it was an SA and HG shouldn't be wearing it but "that's my story and I'm sticking to it"............

Should the buckle of the hangers be in the front or back of the dagger?
