I just got this booklet for the earning of the Reichsportabzeichen in Bronze by Mr Friedrich Kasten of the Schutzploizei Hamburg , Pol.=Ausbildungsabteilung ,3.Ausbildungs=Hu.(Hundertschaft) . With the award booklet came also his Bronze DRL Sportabzeichen .

The thick paper stock binder has the award embossed in the center of the front page . I placed the award next to it ,--sorry the swastika is in the dark portion !

The last page , page 15 , in the booklet gives the actual award number as Nr.667576 and is dated 15.August 1939. Note : They mis-spelled his name as Kaesten instead of Kasten !

Pages 12,13 and 14 in the booklet state what he did to get the badge . Page 12 : Swam 300 Meters in 8.43 Min. and did a 5,25 Meter long jump .

On page 13 : He ran 400 Meters in 60 Sekt. and threw the shot put for 8,40 Meters .

Last on page 14 : He had to march 25 km with a 12 1/2 kg backpack and he did it in 3 hours and 45 Min. I though it was very interesting to find out what they had to do to earn these sports awards . Hope you enjoyed this presentation ! Bernd

Bernd, very nice document & award lot you found! Agreed, it is always interesting to learn just what they did for that little piece of metal! Helps provide a greater understanding of what sort of commitment was made to earn these type of awards. I know I wouldn’t be excited about performing that last one!
