Here is a great tunic I found this week at the local show. A most unusual tunic in the style of the M43 but piped, the collar is not added and the tunic is not modified in any way. There are no cuff slits or openings for the cuffs, and the back is manufactured in the M36 style a Fantastic piece, the interior is fully lined in cotton, but has no PO marks. I like it very much.

Hello,

To add to the resurrected thread I will here post my variation on a Gendarmerie mottled summer cotton tunic.

It is unique in that it has been modified by the addition of a piped brown collar in an attempt to more closely resemble a standard police service uniform.

Sleeve eagle, a nice known pattern, original to this tunic.

And a shot inside the sleeve showing the original sleeve eagle stitching with no extra holes or signs of tampering.

Hello,

Another contribution:

Here is a nice early Gendarmerie officer's Tschako, with an exceptionally nice eagle, and thinner than normal chin scales. It also still has the cloth "pillows" behind the eagle to fill in the gaps created by the thick officer's eagle.

Side View: Notice that the front vent screen has been removed. it has also been removed from the other side, and I believe this to be a modification done by the owner as these tschakos were notoriously hot to wear on a daily basis.

Thick, detailed officer's eagle with wreath tops stamped so as to fold over the top. The "pillows" can just be seen behind the eagle.

And lastly a view of the interior showing the silk "curtains" and high scalloped leather sweat band typical of officer's grade tschakos.

Next,

Another Gendarmerie officer's full dress uniform showing the wear of the shoulder cords, cartouche belt, and brocade belt as well as the dress tchako "brush".

A little closer view of the belts, etc:

I have seen photos with the medal bar worn both above and beneath the cartouche belt. I have elected to place it so that the medals are visable.

A close ip of the rather hard to get 2nd pattern "SS" officer's belt with original to the belt police buckle. The belt's "RZM" tag, and buckle maker match, showing that both were manufactured by the same firm.

This and the "ss" runes worn by full members of the SS employed as policemen, are to my knowledge the only two articles of police uniform that are RZM marked

And lastly a 3/4 view of the tschako showing the correct attachment of the parade "bush" to the side of the tschako.

Finally, and last for the evening is a view of a "combat" Gendarmerie officer's field tunic. It is easily distinguished from the service tunic by it's lack of brown collar, cuffs and orange piping. It is worn here with a M42 helmet, and "breeches" as would be expected in combat situations.

Bill, excellent displays and your Gendarmerie collection is rather evolved now...I better watch out! Smile

Hmmm, I think you need a rural police bayonet in the mix, which would fit in rather well with all that other brown leather!
