The first stamp with the eagle is called a waffenamt stamp. After the bayonet was inspected by the waffenamt(weapons office)they were stamped with the inspectors stamp and number. Your is a WaA8 meaning that inspector 8 of the Deutsche waffenamt(German weapons office) inspected and said this bayonet passed inspection. Many items you'll find multiple WaffenAmt marks due to individual parts of the whole product being inspected. The other numbers are manufacturers serial numbers that is all. The scabbard and bayonet were not produced at the same time. They are mismatched parts which is more than common with bayonets. The written word on the blade is a maker mark possibly. I don't deal with bayonet exclusively maybe someone else could chip in on that part. Smile

Thanks for your help.He is a hard man to buy for but I know his eyes will light up when he opens this gift.Do you think the 37 stamp on the back edge of the blade is the year?

That's a good guess. I would think it is. But like I said previously I don't deal exclusively with these, thus my knowledge is a bit limited and I believe some of our more experienced bayonet collectors here could answer that definitively. I don't want to feed you misinformation. I know quite a bit about the WaffenAmt but that applies to more than bayonets. Smile

Hello, You have there a nice Durkopp bayonet, maybe with origin blueing? the scabbard is probably a postwar GDR rework, with unvisible blade maker stamp, the ball finial proof should be WaA883, but sometimes are only first 2 digits vicible. best regards,Andy

Thank you Andy and Adam for your taking the time with your replies.I am greatful to know it is an actual WWII German K98.I was worried it might have been a Cheq or Yugoslav.or something other then I thought it was.I bought a second bayonet from the same Army/Navy store.I know it is a German Dress bayonet and the blade is marked with the WKC Knight.Im pretty sure though it is an incorrect scabbard.I will post photos soon for some additional help.
Thanks again
