Hello fellow collectors. Just thought I would share a few of my more recent Imperial German aquisitions.

I took a much needed break this summer, but could only keep away so long.

I have attached a pic of two Imperial German 84/98s; one an S84/98nAS by Gebruder Heller, Marienthal (no date) with MG markings, and the other an S84/98nA, Erfurt W15, with matching 8th Bavarian Chevaulagers markings.

The M.G. marked S84/98nAS is something pretty special. Almost all M.G.K. markings usually denote one of the MG companies which were part of an infantry regiment. A quick glance at this unit marking, M.G.K.602.14., and one can see that 602 is a number much higher than any infantry regiment. That's because this particular MG Company operated independently of any regiment, and was formed along with 7 other MG companies (M.G.K.601-608) specifically as part of the Asienkorps Expedition, created and deployed to assist the Ottoman Turks in areas such as Palestine. I know of two other bayos with markings to one of these 8 MG companies (one other example marked to the 601st, and the other to the 602nd). All three examples are sawback models made by Gebr. Heller.

The 8th Bayerisches (Bavarian) Chevaulagers were a type of mounted infantry or light cavalry employed by Bavaria. 8th Bav. Chev. markings are the most often found among the 8 total Chevaulagers units (although that's not to say that these markings are common by any stretch!!). Most are 84/98s, though there are a few S14s and one known S98/05aA (which I managed to get), and these longer bayos appear to have only been issued to the 8th Bav. Chev. Stab (HQ), not the line units.

At any rate, I know these aren't shiny and plastered with swastikas and touched by Hitler, but I find them quite interesting.

Chevaulagers unit marks on Lugers are among the most scarce to find. To date only eight have been reported. I suspect that their are not that many issue Ch unit marked bayonets out their too. Awhile back I had a Kar88 with Ch marks on the front sight cap. Anyway great find.
