Blade spine, no original marking left after rework. Blade has been blued and was never sharpened.

Don't know anything about those, but sure it looks like a nice piece. What blade length did they have?

You got your question on the scabbard in before I posted the last picture. Yes, it is a 98/05 metal acabbard

Your quick with that correction.

The blade length runs about 14 1/4". The are commonly known as "Butcher" blade bayonets. They are not as pretty as some of the other models, but I like the Imperial Army unit marked ones, as they have a lot of direct history associated to them.

The police unit marked blades are identified to specific areas of command in Germany during the post WW I and in the Weimar period.

The Imperial & Wirmar navies unit marked some of their bayonets as well.

Joe,
Thanks for posting pictures of your beautiful Weimar Police rework. I think these bayonets are fascinating because of the history behind them and the different variations.
I have taken a few shots of one that is the same as yours, but different.

Weimar Police rework with sawback removed. Per the Treaty of Versailles, the crossguard is dated 1920 on the obverse, denoting inspection by the Allied Commission. All 98/05 bayonets began life with a polished finish. When these were reworked during the Weimar period, most had all metal parts blued.

As often seen on these reworks, the press stud and the grip screws have been slotted for a screwdriver. This was often-times, but not always done. Notice that Joe's has not. This bayonet also includes an unmarked "rough out" frog.

The reverse of the crossguard is stamped S.Fr.I.231.4. I believe this denotes "Schutzpolizei Frankfurt, Abschnitt 1, Weapon 231 (not sure what the .4 means). I'm sure Joe will know.

The obverse ricasso bears the distributor's mark "L.O. Dietrich, Altenburg". Reverse ricasso bears the manufacturer's mark "Gebr. Hartkopf, Solingen".
Additionally, the obverse ricasso bears the number K516 which is also stamped on the lip of the scabbard throat.

Here is a shot of a WWI period 98/05 with sawtooth blade. This one marked Anker-Werk, Bielefeld like Joe's. Notice the metal parts are unblued.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I like these things.
