Although the weapon numbers do not match on the scaber and on the bayonet. I'm still very pleased to have found this Sea Battalion unit marked Erfurt bayonet. The bayonet, scaber and frog are in great shape. It also had a prior unit mark 10.J.R.3.17 that was scratched out. I'm not sure if this is a Inf Rgt or a Jager Battalion.

Interesting comparision here with another S98 Erfurt dated 1904. Apparently Erfurt went with a stronger grip tang design on the 1904 as compared to the 1901 S.B. Here is a quote from a fellow collector on the S.B. bayonet.
(Dow, that's a hell of a find. Naval marked bayonets are rare but one marked to the cadre of the III. S.B. is kinda like finding a sabre of some seventh cav trooper left behind at Mandan when Custer went hunting indians.) ![]() |
