Hello. If you're talking about the 3rd Reich era white frogs, usually large size worn with S98/05s and ostensibly worn by the LAH etc., it's been my experience that they're scarce, but certainly show up from time to time. The example I have seen most frequently are white painted S98/05 frogs marked "A. Fischer / Berlin C.2 / 1937." With a bit of patience, you'll be able to find one in nice shape for $100-150. I know of one site where there are two: Both the exact same type and almost the same condition, with one for too much at $250, and then one which makes for a great laugh at $495 (why the huge price difference in two of the exact same thing is beyond me!). Here is the link:

Again, I wouldn't pay $250, let alone $495, and I can safely say that I see at least 3 or 4 for sale on eBay alone each year which never seem to reach higher than $150, but if it's that important to you...

Imperial era white frogs seem to bring varied prices, and in my experience are much more scarce. I've been told that the white frogs which were actually issued (as opposed to private purchase frogs) were usually in rough out leather and using a white dye that had fairly poor permanence (meaning it lost the white color fairly easily). I've been told by a few in the know that the issued Imperial era white frogs are quite scarce and worth a good bit more than their private purchase and 3rd reich counterparts.

I hope this helps a little.

Here's one I picked up a few years ago. Fisher marked on the reverse with the 1937 date. Nate's price range is about right too. I think this one cost me close to $150 but I've seen them as high as $300 which is too much IMO. $495 is just lunacy Smile

Very glad to be able to help, Gottlieb. Even more glad getting a chance to see that ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL S98/05 PSS! Over the years I've narrowed down my collecting to Imperial German issue bayos only (mostly for financial reasons), and I stopped doing 3rd Reich about 3 years ago, but the Polizeiseitengewehr Sonderausfurung is one of the very few dress edged weapons that just excites me.

Thanks for sharing that, Billy G, and congratulations on owning such a beautiful rig! One of the downsides to collecting combat bayos only is that you simply don't get the aesthetics you can find in dress pieces. That's partly why I find the PSS so interesting: It started its life as a combat bayonet.

As some here are probably aware, there have actually been a few of these exceptionally rare bayos available lately.

Thanks Nate. The frog & knot were additions by me as the PSS came naked. If I didn't get it when I did, I'd never be able to now. Too many items out there & me with that damned undiagnosed ADD Smile

Interesting to know is that according to period photos the white frogs were not worn with the dress type Police bayonets but rather with the K98 and the 98/05.

Gottlieb,

The frog that you show is one for the larger Polizei S98/05. This was worn by the police for parade and the one that Billy shows is the more narrow style for wear with the S84/98 or PSS.

I have 2 white frogs that are both SS property marked like their standard frogs. These white frogs are not leather but rather a substitute material. An original, white SS proofed frog will go for much more than the prices stated here.

I have been working on a book dedicated to just SS bayonets, frogs, portapees, and complete belt rigs. Belt rigs have combinations of SS ammo pouches, SS marked belts, canteens, breadbags, Lugers, and other SS proofed pistols. In addition there will be some SS rifles focusing on the SS property and proof marks. You will be able to see various marked SS frogs etc.
There will also be a great number of pictures from Mr. Noss.
