Eric,

A well conditioned beauty, congrats. Who's the maker? Any unit markings?

The rumor is these were given out to a special police unit? Possibly SS?

Eric,

That's the mark of Frister & Rossmann, Nähmaschinenfabrik, Berlin, a maker of sewing machines (of all things!). F&R blades are sometimes seen dual marked by Henckels. According to Fisher's, Henckels supplied some bayonet blades to F&R who then "finished" the bayonets. I've seen at least one other PSS with this mark although that one also had the Henckels mark too.

Rumor indeed, I believe the association with these blades & anything SS is purely wishful thinking put out there by the dealers of yore. It was likely the name (Polizei Seitengewehr Sonderausfuhrung) that gave rise to the rumor. The name merely means "special Police bayonet", I believe these pieces were discontinued early on because of the prohibitive cost to refurbish the original S98/05 bayonets. IMO the Cadillac of Polizei blades & you scored a nice one.

Here's another thread on PSSs:

I like this one. A fine example of a scarce bayo.
Congrats Eric! Smile

Thanks, Yes Eddie did assist Wink

I notice the blade has a slight curve, unlike the standard police bayos. The construction is different, along with the metal scabbard makes them very unique.

Wonder how many exisit as I have only seen 5 or 6 in the past 7 years.
