...in my elderly parent's basement while I was helping them move. My dad doesn't know where it came from either. His best guess is that it may have come from a couple of boxes of stuff belonging to a deceased brother-n-law. I know nothing about bayonets, but I'm told that it is to a K98.

Could some of you fellers edu-ma-cate me, please?

On one side of the blade it reads "43 fnj." On the other side it reads "7943" with a "w" beneath it. The scabbard is also inscribed with "7943." The frog is in great condition, and it has some sort of writing on the area at the back of the belt loop. (Forgive me if that's not the proper technical term.) The best I can make it out, it reads

"H. TIETE,
?D KUBOWA LE??K"

I'm sure I completely butchered what it actually says, but maybe that's enough for you to go on.

As you can see, the wood is in great shape but there is a screw/rivet missing.

I will gladly provide any other pictures that might lend clarity.

Hello,

this is a Seitengewehr 84/98 3.Mod. for Wehrmacht use.

43 fnj = the maker code of "Coppel GmbH" made in 1943.
7943 w = the 237943´th bayonet of this maker in the year 1943

the maker code and the serial number indicates that the bayonet was made for Wehrmacht-Waffenamt(WaA) contrakt.

the frog is matching. German Modell 98 with alu rivets and wachers.

a nice example poorly the blade is sharpend and 1 screw is missing.

has the scrabbard and the bayonet the same number?

here is a Fnj 43 number 9085p out of my collection. fitted in a rare 1943 italien captured and modifed frog and a modell 1943 belt.

Thank you so much for the information. Do you know of anyone who might have an original replacement screw to replace the one that is missing?

And yes, the bayonet and the scabbard numbers are both matching.

Thanks again!

serval german firms like FRANKONIA are bying replacement screws in a totaly unuesed contition. take a look at the homepage of www.frankonia.de.
the other way is only get one from a worse oder damaged 84/98.

matching numbers are very fine... bacause this is rare to find.

Thanks again - I clicked on the frankonia site, but I'm afraid I dont speak German.

I'm probably going to sell it to someone who can appreciate it more than I can. I suppose they can track down a screw once they get it.

What would you pay (theoretically) for it in this condition? I'm just trying to determine it's market value.

you can ask per email.

the other opion is realy waiting for a worse one to use the parts... but the parts often are in a worse condition, too.

the link to the screws is this (at the monent no pic...but i orderd theire too... the screws are a very good unused condition. send to USA is not very expensive. so i think its a good deal) :

Dear Mr Resurgam,

thank you for your E-Mail.

Unfortunately it´s not possible to send one screw with a value of 5,- € to the USA. We have a minimum order value of 500,- €.

It´s quite clear for us, that this order value seems very high at the first moment. But we still hope for your comprehension, because only in this way we´ll be able to realize deliveries out of the European Union.

Also I have to tell you that the article 8759, Bajonettschalenschraube & Mutter f. M98, is not on stock at the moment. A new delivery for them is not planed.

Best regards

Sebastian Müller

Hey dont know about u but I found that FUNNY! :-) Best bet is to sell the piece on ebay. If you carefully take the frog off without damaging it and state italian k98 frog you should get some extra money verses selling them together. bayonet will bring market value. keep us posted!
