The Soviet Army/Air Force presentation dagger (dated 1981)contains no lettering but ample floral design etchings on the blade and the fittings.
The brocade belt buckle shows the post-Stalin 16 Soviet republics. The hangers have the 2-piece snap clips appropriate for that time period.

You are right, there were 15 republics after Stalin. (Stalin wanted Finland, but Finland didn't want Stalin. So, after his death the Politbureau just wrote it off).

I bought both the Nevsky and the Khmelnitzky as reproductions. The Nevsky turned out to be original. The old Soviet medals reproductions are exeptionally well made.

Great display Manfred.

Can you tell us about this belt. It does not resemble the Naval belts.

Jim W: These belts were worn by General officers of the Soviet Army and Air Force. The period is determined by the number of ribbon wraps around boths ears of wheat plus the one in the center. The first belt buckle shows 5 turns of ribbon around each side plus the one in the center for a total of 11 Soviet republics. This belt was worn until about 1948 or so. The next buckle shows 8 + 7 + 1 = 16 republics and was worn until 1956 or so. The third belt with the 15 republics on the tongue were worn until now. According to pictures the generals still wear that belt for special occasions as is.
