We had the San Marcos Marine dagger come up in an unrelated thread so I moved it here. As the Doctor says later here, this is one of the rarest daggers. He has seen only one and I have seen only a couple come up for auction and sale.

Great Find Doctor.

If the American Collectors find this it will go in the $ thousands.

Doctor, to your knowledge, is this model being reproduced.

We have to consider that these are really rare: I saw a fake dagger for 'assaltatori della regia marina (the navy commandos)' (which was provided with a double edged blade and with the handle with the 4 grips for fingers: this one, on the contrary, is a San Marco dagger) and the big difference was that the handle was made in resin and not in bakelite. I never saw a fake San Marco (but frankly speaking I saw only one original): so I have few indications to recognize as real or not....is that handle made in bakelite?...the strange thing is the leather under the handle: to me, that's not correct, but ....again, the blade of the navy commandos dagger was always etched with 'REGIA MARINA' on oneside and with a maker mark on the other, the SanMarco should not have any mark (like this one, it appears...)another strange particular: the lion head, the 'hair' of the head, I mean, ...they should be no more than 6/7 lines...in this one to me they appear like a disorderedgroup....
well, now I send a mail to the seller: will see his answers!
goodnight (here is 2 am, now!)

Thank you Eughen for clarifying this dagger. I was afraid people were reproducing these and now you have confirmed this.

Also, I appreciate your posting the copy for us to see.

Doctor, it appears your observations were correct.

Jim

JIM.

I think Eughen posted a picture of an original dagger for comparison with the DEI tin copy in The Doctor's link.
