I am starting this thread to help collectors identify the multitude of fakes and reproductions being sold by three primary Ebay dealers.

I receive numerous emails at home inquiring about these Hungarian daggers on Ebay so I will have this thread and anyone can post photos of the reproductions and discuss them.

1st dagger is the new popular Hungarian Paratroopers dagger which probably never existed.

There are now untold numbers of these things and people are paying a $1,000 for them.

Here is the most recent repo, or fantasy. It somewhat resembles a dagger we discussed here issued in 46/47 before the communists took over.

This one is a fake and new also.

I see the old reproduction Fire Marshalls dagger is making a rebound. This one is probably a reproduction. This is another dagger where we are not sure if originals really existed.

The one that bothers me the most is the 1854 Austrian reproductions. There are only a handful of originals and these crooks have destroyed the market.

Hi Nats.
I think this one is the buyer who contacted me this time. The seller (not necessarily this one) had offered him additional items. Hopefully he will be able to stop the sale.

In any case, I am tired of seeing the increasing number of these on Ebay.

Jim:

Here is a Hungarian piece that is, in my opinion, a fantasy piece as well. For me, the 'tell' is the gilting on the coat of arms on the blade.

Last Pic.

I picked this up from a well-known (in Hungary) dealer about 4 years ago.

I am starting another thread on an Austro-Hungarian River Naval Dagger that I picked up from a well-known North American dealer several years ago.

Hi Guys - I was under impression that all "golden" state logos on the blade is a indication of fake hungarian daggers. However I was recently in Budapest in Military museum and as you can imagine was eager to see some daggers on the display ...and there were none. I was getting depressed with this fact when in last room - next the cloak room - they had them hanging on uniforms and one taken of scappbard. And you can picture my supprize when I spoted golden state emblem on the blade. Now I am really confused. Is it possible to find those on originals or are they puting fakes to museums now..Smile?

As there are no known originals with the gold shield, or a shield for that matter, they apparently took a donation of a reproduction.

Surely you are not surprised by this.

Hi Mike,
Jim is right: no original daggers with gilted blade.
I will check those gilted daggers in the museum next week. Smile
There was a great display in the museum full with dress daggers formerly, but it has been removed approx 3 years ago. Mad

Greetings from Hungary,
Janos
