Didn't realize this guy had an interest in TR era stuff until he was named as a defendant in a recent civil tort. Plaintiff claims Manson used fraudulently appropriated band funds to fund his TR collection, and a childs skeleton in a wheel chair, amoungst other things.

He is who he is. Don't let his looks fool you. I heard him during an interview and I was surprized he sounds quite intelligent.

Mike,
I think he is. He is college educated. None the less he's a very strange cat, and I fear people like him only reinforce false stereotype regarding collectors.

A google search revealed alot of articles regarding the hobby. Naturally and unfortunately many of them highlighted the negative aspects of the hobby and mentioned the odd balls of the collecting community.

Brian Hugh Warner

There is actually a good article in Retired Officer magazine from 2005 or 2006 that casted the hobby in a positive light.

http://www.moaa.org/Magazine/CurrentEdition/f_edge.asp

The link is dead. Perhaps someone saved a copy of it. It actually specifically addressed collecting daggers/swords.

Marilyn Manson/Brian Warner is a highly intelligent, albeit eccentric, guy. Interestingly enough, he happens to be one of David Letterman's favorite guests and has an open invitation to appear on his show whenever he wishes, similar to Alec Baldwin's relationship with Saturday Night Live.

you gotta hand it to this guy, SHOCK sells! hell, I remember when a new girl singer was coming up, and she dressed, and sang all "questionable" and whatnot, then she made a few commercials, and videos, and she is still a millionare!............oh yes, her name? Madonna.

hell, given todays PC police, some folks would probably have MM as their house guest then a dreaded "Third Reich" collector!

I am a huge RAMMSTIEN fan, and they are allways being compared to promoting the Reich

interesting link about MM
http://raumfahrer.wordpress.com/manson/

and one about Rammstien
http://raumfahrer.wordpress.com/rammstein/

lol they are even after Arnold!

I'm not debating that he is both intelligent, and has an apeal to a large audience. However, I mantain that he is a wierd cat. Collecting TR artifacts has a bad image as it is, and when a publicised person, who happens to be both an artifact collector, and has some very odd traits (which the majority of society judges as odd) ultimately hurts the hobby. MM doesn't grab headlines because he collects TR, but other higher profile issues, like the suit, coupled with the child skeleton, then throw in the WW2 collectibles, and it sticks in lay peoples mind. There is no doubt that many of his themes have hints of German 30s showmanship, as do many in the industry. The problem is his TR hobby, coupled with the less than seemingly benevolent behavior.

Enjoy his artistic aptitude and his shows. However, you don't hear a whole lot regarding other celebrity or higher profile collectors. I also recall issues regarding Mark Fuhrman and allegations of his collecting hobby during the OJ trial. I don't recall if it was emitted into evidence or supressed, but I do recall it being brought up by the media.

That's all I'm saying. As we all know, collecting is typically a benign hobby, but a few examples hurt the hobby as a whole. Remember, it's not what is real, just what is perceived. Unfortunately. Our hobby is legitimate as are almot 100% of the collectors. But the few odd ones are those who garner all the attention. I believe his hobby is only brought up to augment strange stories about him.

great points Swordfish,
and I agree, but I bet there is alot of celeb collectors that are "in the closet" so to speak, because of what the public would think of them. I remember back in the early days, there was a thread about possible celeb collectors.
I never really cared about what others thought of me, as they dont KNOW me, but it sure is funny when you bust out some "stuff" and the knowledge that goes with it, and they just look at you!

That's true Paul. I agree my friend.

I've heard that Bob Hope, Clint Eastwood were collectors. I know a collector who was in an 80s hair metal band who is a heavy RK collector in the SF Bay Area.

I havnt had too difficult atime when people see my collection, but I also collect Imperial Japanese and US. I dont announce it to the world for fear of robbery, burglary, etc. The majority of people, including friends who are Jewish have no problem with it wahtsoever. Like me, almost everyone else here has no sympathies for the reich, but are simply fascinated. In fact, just about everyone is fascinated by that brief period of history. And lets face it, the Germans made the coolest looking stuff.

Happy collecting. Man, im up way tooo late tonight. Holiday events I had to attend.

There`s been a few interesting threads re: celebrity TR collectors or wearers here before........Here`s a Winnipeg Sun cover from October......I watched the Motörhead documentary ``Live Fast, Die Old`` recently, and Lemmy`s collection is visible in a lot of his interview video.

Aaah ... The Ramms+ein ...
I'm the big fan of this group, but since "Mutter" they repeat themself a bit I think.
I saw them in Montreal some 8 years ago (when they were on the top with "Du Hast"... etc) with Sepultura as guest band.
That was a EARTHQUAKE with clouds of free pot smoke floating around!!! Big Grin
Good, old "Metropolis" was really shaking!
Friend of mine told me it was like listen to some SS band ... Cool
However I can't really see or hear any Nazi relationship in Ramms+ein music.
