Yep, as it says known as the "Woodsman's Pal".
was issued as a machete/tool/fighting knife. the most comical thing s was in the 2 instruction books that come with it (along with a sharpening stone) there is a diagram of how to take on a Japanese soldier wielding a sword with one of these! ( in my mind, I just throw it at him and run!)

They are collectible, but these are still in production, and many were made of the civilian market as well. Military ones should have some #'s stamped in the handle D guard.

Hi, Im pretty sure this one is pre 45.. At least the pacific vet I got it from yesterday would have taken great offence.. HAHA

He had it in Guadacanal and a few other islands.

you are right it does have LC-14-B on the D guard... what does that mean??

That's the military designation for these.
Value of a WW2 one $150-200.
( although your appears to be missing the booklets and stone, something to look for!)

Inside in those pouches you should also find some string and a few fishing hooks in a small paper pouch. You may also encounter a couple of different lengths of the USGI hanger. I have a few of these if you would like a few pics of the complete rig let me know I'll dig one out. Also include Vietnam as they were issued then also.
