Hello all i searched this forum for any discussion on colt model 1911 but to no avail. Ive been looking on gunbroker for more info and several other sites. There is an auction coming soon and several guns will be offered including these colt's. Just was wondeing if anyone wanted to throw in thier 2 cents on what i should look for as far as value? I have always wanted one but they have always been to rich for my blood. hopefully these will only be semi expensive! Sorry these are the only pics offered,thanks

I only have a limited and basic knowledge on firearms so hopefully others with more knowledge will add their input. The WWI 45 will have MODEL OF 1911 on the slide. The WWII will have MODEL 1911A1 on the slide. The serial number can be traced to figure out the production year.
The second 45 looks like a civilian model. The Mauser unfortunately has been sporterized, which will lower it's value. |

From the pics the 1911 looks to be an A1 model, look at the trigger area and grip sear, the sear looks to be long which is a A1 tait and the trigger area looks to be cut out where your finger goes thru to the trigger which is another A1 trait, lots of wear but if it is a true 1911 condition and year of mfg makes a big difference in price, generally I think from the pics 1911 or 1911A1 I wouldn't go more than 500-600 top, the second colt looks prety good and is a commander model I believe price I'm not sure on but I think around 500.00, as for the 98 to bad it's been cut down but if you can get it for 100-150 you would be ok. JMO

Thanks Fritziii for that valueable information now i won't go in "blind" im still reading up as much as possible but its always good to get opinions! You stated the year of mfg is important does that mean "war years 41-45" or just the older the better? thanks

Fritziii, I gotta disagree with you on this one. I do agree that the frame/receiver clearance cut at the receiver looks like a 1911A1 mod. However, the trigger itself is definately 1911, as is the mainspring housing on the grip strap. I think this is a mixmaster of parts in not very good condition. Legion, I would recommend that you pass on this auction if you're looking for a collector's item. If you just want a good shooter, go for the Colt Commander. JMHO  WANTED TO REPURCHASE!! It does appear to be the A1 style. I'm going to add a few pics to show what Fritziii and Denny were speaking about. I hope this helps. The first pic shows a WW1 Colt on the left, and the one on the right is a WW2 Remington Rand. Early Colts have the pony in the rear of the slide, the grip sear/safety are shorter, the hammers are a little longer and wider, and the triggers are longer. I'll try to add a little additional info with the next pics. Steve.  |

This pic will show the cut out on the frame by the trigger on the A1 style. This time the Colt is on the bottom, the Remington is on the top, note the longer trigger on the early Colt.

This will show you the style of hammers, and a little bit of the grip sear/safety. Oh yeah, the girlfriend was kind enough to help with the pics as you can see. I know the Colt has the finish removed. The idiot I got it from wanted to get it re-blued because it didn't look new anymore. I traded to get it, it was in pieces in a box because he had no idea how to get it back together. One day I'll get it restored.

Thanks denny, Steven the pics helped alot..there will be two others at the auction (but no pics posted)..So i will take your pics for a reference and some books and see how it works out! Then again i just found out my kid needs braces so i may just come out with a BB gun?

Good luck with the auction, but I am at no means an expert on these. That's just a little of what I know. These other guys are by far better at this than I. I don't collect the .45's, I had just wanted one. Both were picked up for my price which was no where near close to retail. I'm glad the pics helped. If someone finds a flaw in my info, please post it for Legion. Steve. |

I would stay away from the k98, it looks like a m48, that is not very collectble, there is not a disk on the butt stock, and the trigger guard is wrong. Could be late war but i am inclined to feel its a m48. I have a 1918 colt and my suggestion is to go to a book store and get more information or google up colt 1911 and there is a good amount of info there.

some colt photographs to compare, one is a 1911, made in 1918 the other is a 1911a1 remington 1944 and the other is a colt 38 super pre 70 seris.

The 1911 colt cost me $1600.00. its correct. I think I paid about market for it. I would think its about 80 to 85%
