Earl, is the LL under or next to the serial number? If so it is basically the series number, they start with the letter A and run to Z then when they get thru this then they start the dbl lettering. hope this helps, can you post a pic.

Earl, never seen one marked like that before, usually it's in block letters, but that is definatly CE and that is the code for J.P. Sauer thats a good maker for 98ks. Is it matched?

Alas no. All matching except the bolt.

Script is OK for 1941-1942 J.P. Sauer's. But while early rifles had the slanted script, some later 1942's had the "ce" script straight up and down. And in 1943 straight up and down script, while others had the block type characters. If I knew the reason why I forgot it, although I may have it somewhere. FP

It may just be the photo, but the stock almost looks like it has the red shellac finish found on Russian captures. Is it of the imported capture rifles?

I think it must be the light.I got it from the Vets (US) Grandson along with a couple other pieces.

It's probably the light or my monitor. It would most likely have the "X" on the receiver as well as an import mark if it were a Russian capture.
