Hi guys,
i could use some help on a luger I want to buy.
I found an old guy who still has a stach of some daggers and a luger.
Problem I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING BAOUT LUGERS !!

WHAT SHOULD I CHECK ?
WHICH NUMBERS SHOULD BE ON THERE?
HOW CAN I SEE IF ALL NUMEBRS MATCH ?
(SO I MEAN WHICH PARTS ARE NUMBERED AND HOW DO THESE NUMBERS MATCH EACHOTHER?).
Could you guys post some pictures of the stamps I should look for oth is piece.
I do not have any pictures to post, this guy (older person) doesn't have a PC, so I will have an go a look myself this saterday.
But if it's looks ok I would like to buy it right away and bring it home.
I will give him a call tomorrow and see if he can find me some numbers, so I can help you guys a bit.
I know this is a difficult question without seeing the piece!
Anyway the price is ok.
And according to the other daggers he has it looks period aswell.
But ANY COMMENTS OR HELP IS MORE THEN WELCOME?

IS THERE A WEBGOOD SITE I COULD USE AS A GUIDELINE !!

THX

In the mean time I did give him a call and these were the numbers/markings he found on the gun.

top : DXS ? (?is this a known mark or is this maybe DMW in written letters misread by him ? + 50 + 41
side : P.08 10
other side: nothing he can see (i think there should be some waffenamt stamps there).
below : 50 + 750 (and a letter he can not igure out, but thinks an s).

Joe...The only maker i can think of that put P08 on the side was Mauser (Mauser Banner). As per the DXS i havent got a clue the DWM marking on the Toggle are hard to tell its DWM but i dont think you could make DXS out of it, but i guess someone could.Need a better description than you got.

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Eric,
thanks for the reply.
I did some more research and if not mistaken in 1941 DWM was out of business and evrything was made in the mauser plant.

So my guess it is a mauser byf luger (but then again byf is no way close to dxs).
I did find the dxs code somehwere on the internet as a proofstamp of Thyssen & Hütte steel plant in Duisburg.
But I have not find any luger marked with this maker stamp.

Anyway I will go an have a look later today and will found out what this mistery mark is.

I might post pictures or update later.
