Hello All, I know this is not Historic or Period but please bear with me! When my Pop passed away in 2003 he was retired in Florida. My sister[who lives in the same town] went through his house and belongings she found this pistol. Not being a "gun-nut" like myself she sent it up to me. God Bless her! Pop bought this in '94 apparently BEFORE the ban on high-capacity magazines, S&W Model 915 9 m/m, all paperwork, reciepts and manual in the box. I have no idea if he ever fired it, if he did, I'm sure he went to the range and shot 1 clip. Mint condition as you can see! My question is this, is this piece "grandfathered" or is it illegal under current laws? Info will be much appreciated! Kingtiger/Mark are you out there? Best Regards, Leipzig

I'm not up on your state laws, but as far as federal law, the pistol and it's magazine is perfectly legal. It would have been granfathered before the high capacity magazine ban went into effect. But it really makes no difference now. The so called "assault weapons ban" expired and all high capacity magazines are legal to own. That may all change though depending upon the next presidential election Frown Sorry if I misunderstood your question and you are asking about some FL state law instead of the federal law.

Leipzig,

it is perfectly legal for the reasons that timboo stated. Very nice handgun. All high capacity magazines are legal in Florida and Tennessee, but when you get to others like NY and DC..they will confiscate the weapon on sight.

Check with the local NRA office in your state before you take it out in public...some states may require you to have a permit or something like that.

timboo and Mark, Thanks for the info! Smile I knew the ban on "assault guns" had expired but did'nt know that high-capacity hand guns were defined as such. This was all done on the "up and up" as my sister took the gun to her local gunshop and they shipped it to my local shop who subsequently registered it to me. I would assume that it is legal in my state otherwise the transaction could not have taken place? I live about 3 minutes from a County Police sub-station, perhaps I should just drop in and inquire? By the way, after 4 yrs, I still have'nt gotten around to firing it yet! Thanks Again, Leipzig

Leipzig,
I carried a Model 59 Smith back in the 70's which I think was the forerunner of your pistol. If so, it should be a sweet gun to shoot.

WANTED TO REPURCHASE!! Walther pistol Model PP - ac code - Ser. No. 382000P - REWARD FOR INFO ABOUT THIS PISTOL!!

Leipzig, find a friendly police officer at a local gun range and a whole new world opens up to you. I shoot full auto M-16 variants with the local cops at my range. Good guys and they always have plenty of ammo. They shoot my stuff and I get to shoot their stuff.

Good shooting!
