To make a long story short, a guy promised to come into my shop and show me a Luger four months ago. He brought it in today. His dad brought it home from the war. To my surprise it was a police holster, when I took it out it was a police pistol with a sear safety. S 42 code, 1939 date. Now he wants to sell it, what's a fair price? The numbers on the pistol all match as far as I can see with out a field strip, but the clips don't. He has two. One is definately a police. he wants $1500 US with holster.

Sorry about the bad pics I took them with my phone, and I had a pot of coffee before I got to work. Dow and Kingtiger and some of the other Luger collectors please give me a heads up on this. I may have to sell the cat to make the final rest of the cash, but you can have all the cat toys too with her. Smile.

Steve.

She's got some holster wear to the muzzle and to the high pionts, side cover, etc. Blueing's still bright, hasn't gone to the brown yet.

Thanks, Steve.

Sorry bad coffee photo. Still said 38,500 made in 1939. I need to dig a little deeper and find out how many police were made.

Thanks again, Steve.

Thanks Grumpy,

I checked gun broker after he left as well as simpson. I couldn't find a compareable very quickly. I had a lot of stuff to do there first.

BTW I don't work in a gun shop nor a pawn shop. I'm a locksmith. I just opened up a box that had his dad's .45 in it months ago. And my blue book's been on loan for months, I'm in the dark.

Thanks, Steve.

Steven...There were around 600 police ones made (1939). Value? If all matching besides clip and in nice shape im guessing 1500.00-2000.00 and same with the holster depends on shape 250.00- 350.00.

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. And remember the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Steven,

While some would probably prefer to pay less, I think that $1,500.00 with the holster is a good price for both parties. I know that I would buy it if it were offered to me for that price.

I may be low, but I think $1,500.00 is probably about the fair value.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll see if I can try to swing the deal, he said he would hold it for me for a while. I was thinking more like $1200 in my mind. Just goes goes to show you how variable the prices in lugers are. With luck I can get it in the future and post better pics. It's a lot nicer looking than the one I have.

Oh BTW, I found Still's forum, gee thanks that's all I need is another forum to read. Big Grin.

Thanks again guys, Steve.
