I just got these two pistols. One is a hammerless Enfield and the other is a Webley & Scott. The 2nd is marked "war finish" on the frame. Both are chambered for the S&W .38 cartridge. Check the pics out and comments regarding values and rarity would be interesting to all of us.

Nice pistols. I have examples of both. Evidently Webley didn't want their reputation tarnished by the the rough finish put on the government contract revolvers, so they insisted on putting "War Finish" on them. They're nice pistols, but not really uncommon. They seem to run from $150 up to $300 depending upon condition and how bad the buyer wants one.

Very interesting! Thanks for the explanation, I paid $525.00 for the pair which included a vintage box of .38 S&W ammo and the holster for the newer revolver. I bought them as a collection filler and a bit of history.

Very, very nice buy Kingtiger. Prices have been all over the place but approx $350 is what they bring around here. However, Cabela's had two listed for $1000.00 each about three weeks ago. The English put out many variations during WW11 and they make an interested collection at a reasonable price. They also make a very excellent and reliable home defence weapon with soft point ammunition.

cabelas has been known to really stick it to you when it comes to resale on firearms,,,i have seen several interesting lugers,p-38's and colt .45's,but cabelas had dreamland pricing,,,they should have bought oil futures instead,,,

I agree about Cablelas. They're normally trolling for fools. I saw a rebuilt U.S. 1917 that I'd have put $300.00 in, sitting in a Cabelas with a tag of $1,500.00 on it!

That .455 cartridge is a real manstopper

The .455 actually had less muzzle energy than most 38 special loadings. The military loading had about 220 fpe compared to the 45 ACP military loading at 369 fpe.

It certainly does the job, at any rate..

I paid a little more than $550 for this example of a Model VI 455 Cal dated 1918.

But, I make it to be a 98% gun and it came with the original hanger and lanyard.

A bit more than most but I was facinated by this gun since childhood.
