Robert,
I would tend to be a little skeptical about this rifle. I have never seen or heard of this type of marking on a 98-k. That doesn't mean it's not possible, I guess.
Who is the maker of the rifle? Is it commercially proofed or WaA?
Hopefully BiO or someone else more knowledgeable tha I will comment.

I have seen one rifle like this at a dealer/collector friends house and he told me there is another that will sooner or later become available for me.

First time I've ever seen this on a K98 except on trainers. Could be right but I'm not 100% sure. If it has WAa stamps on the rifle I would say it's been added. Do you have any other pictures of the rifle?

Hi Robert,
We really need to see good clear closeups of the barrel and receiver markings. Also if the rifle is matching serial numbers.
About all I can guess from this picture is that the rifle was probably made before 1942. This based on the uncupped buttplate and the front barrel bands. And that's assuming these parts are original to the gun.

Looks like a nice K98, from what has been said with the rifle having WAa markings, I', somewhat skeptical that this is an actual SA group rifle. A couple more questions, what is the date and markings on the top of the receiver? ie CE,BYF,BCD. As Denny asked can we get pics of the markings on the side of the receiver and are there any other stamps on the stock. JMO but I'm not 100% sure of this piece.

The reason fritziii and I are dragging our feet on this piece is twofold. Firstly, neither of us have even encountered an SA marked K98. Secondly, the weapon has waffenamt proofs which means it was procurred through military channels. This would most likely not be the case for a political rifle. An example of this would be the SS K98's. The SS contract rifles (rework or new manufacture) had only commercial proofs - never waffenamt. At least I have never seen one. Sorry fritziii, I don't mean to speak for you, but believe we are both thinking the same.
Other than that, it does look like a nice rifle and would love to see more pictures - especially barrel and receiver markings.
