Hello All,
I am hoping someone could please help me with this sword translation. My meeger knowledge only gets me so far. For some reason it looks like the date was crosed out (?) The stamping on the tang looks like that of ASANO KANESANE but there are enough differences to make me think it is not his. Thank you for any and all guidance.

JERRY-
THE INSCRIPTION IS "TEI SHIGI TSU GEI ICAIIN"(ROYAL ACADEMY ARTS WORKSHOP) "GASSAN SADAKAZU SHICHIKYU NEN ZO(KAO)"GASSAN SADAKAZU MADE THIS AT THE AGE OF 79(SEAL)" REVERSE SIDE IF THERE ARE CHARACHTERS ABOVE THE HOLE I CAN NOT READ THEM. IT DOES SAYHACHI GATSU KICHI JITSU," AN AUSPICIOUS DAY IN THE EIGHTH MONTH. LOOKS LIKE A VERY NICE PIECE. GASSAN SADAKAZU WAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT JAPANESE SWORDSMITHS WORKING IN THE LATE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY. BOB "A man needs to know his limitations" Dirty Harry Gold Badge #263 |
