Hi,

I've been offered the following Japanese sword by the nephew of vet who served on the USS Missouri. I know nothing about these so any info on originality/value would be appreciated. Cheers - Rich

YOR SWORD IS A WAKIZASHI OR SHORT SWORD. IT WAS MADE BY FUJIWARA NAGAYUKI, A SWORDSMITH FROM THE VILLAGE OF TAKATA, PROVINCE OF BUNGO, WHICH IS ON THE NORTH EAST COAST OF KYUSHU, THE SOUTHERN ISLAND.
VALUE ON JAPANESE SWORDS CAN NOT BE DETERMINED STRICTLY FROM PHOTOGRAPHS AS FORGING AND/OR TEMPERING FLAWS CANNOT BE OBSERVED. THE WORK OF TAKATA SMITHS IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE OF HIGH ARTISTIC QUALITY. THEY WERE KNOW FOR THE KEENESSS OF THEIR BLADES.
REGARDS,
BOB
