Hi, this is my first post in this forum as I am mostly into German bayonets. After years of searching I finally found a tassel for my (mid war - iron tsuba) Type 95 NCO sword.
But I was not happy for long as I found that the straps cannot pass through the sarute. After days of digging in the internet I found a photo of this sword with a tassel which DOES NOT tied around the sarute but having the sarute passing through the strap instead. Can anyone advise is this the correct way of securing the tassel ? In this case, I have to remove the sarute to mount the tassel, right ??? Any input will be very much appreciated. Thanks, Keith ![]() |

Keith,
Most leather NCO knots that attach in this manner have a buckle so the strap can be separated. Some can be taken apart at the knot end where the ends slip into the barrel of the knot. Others are simply placed through the Sarute and the strap is threaded through the loop in the leather strap. I hope this helps. "You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself." Well... my interests are a bit far afield sometimes. I also collect a few Japanese military and police swords. BTW, here is the knot in a rather complicated tie on a Japanese Police sword. This is just the way it came to me out of Japan.

It looks like the strap is too long for the previous owner

I know there are at least two or more variations of this tassel. I believe the early model had an adjustment buckle as mentioned above.I've seen them on cavalry swords as well.
