This is a difficult topic to approach for me.As I have become older I have become more aware of my own mortality.Over a year ago a friend of mine who has a great reputation as an avid preserver of history ran into a very uncomfortable situation.On the passing of a veteran friend of his,a call from the widow resulted in a styrofoam ice chest filled with popcorn packing material,the final piece of three of the same.The widow had no idea of the contents of the ice chest other than "this is to go to "Tim".Due to its nature It has been kept in the garage.Having become a collector of Japanese Militaria I am aware of some aspects of Japanese religions but feel compelled to at least provide a more respectfull enviroment than a cardboard box.please feel free to make any comments or suggestions as I take this matter very seriously.Best wishes to all Geoffrey.

What is actually in the ice chest? The only thing I can think of that would have me consider "a more respectfull enviroment" would be human remains. Anything else is just a material object. If it is human remains they should be returned to their respective country.

Geoff, if they are Japanese human remains, I believe the Yasukuni Shrine may accept them, or perhaps be able to offer some guidance or assistance.

I WAS INVOLVED IN A VERY LENGTHY PROCESS OF RETURNING THE CREMATED REMAINS OF A JAPANESE SOLDIER TO HIS FAMILY IN 1996. IT WAS A LENGTHY PROCESS WITH MANY PEAKS AND VALLEYS. THE JOURNEY BEGAN IN 1993 AND TOOK MANY CRAZY TURNS. THE JAPANESE CONSULATE WAS OF LITTLE ASSISTANCE UNTIL I PUSHED THEM. IN THE END, THE FATHER OF FOUR WAS RETURNED TO HIS WIDOW WHO NEVER REMARRIED AND HIS FOUR SENIOR CITIZEN CHILDREN.
