Japanese Police SWORD 1880's Meji Period RARE!

This Japanese sword was made after the Meji period when the samauri were outlawed. This came with a collection of WW2 items where the vet got this from a dead ***.. The blade is black from oxidation and I was not going to clean it. The sword is VERY SHARP and there could be a nice temper line under it but I wasn t going to see. It is 29 inches long and there is NO damage to the blade at all. As you can see some of the ray skin is missing on grip. Blade release button functional


After some research I have found out more information about this sword. It is from the Meiji period 1860's- 1880's is the second model of the POLICE sword it only has one ring on the scabbard. It has the 5 pointed star as shown on page 65-66 of Military swords of Japan by Fuller and Gregory. They state that post meiji police swords are very scarce...
