Hello all,

It's been a long long time since I bought a Japanese sword but I lucked-up today. I found a katana that is 27.25 inches long and in super condition. I've not been able to see the tang yet but have no doubt the sword is an old smith made blade.

It is in its resting scabbard which, for some reason, has been painted black. This came straight from the vets family along with a *** rifle and bayonet. They had paint the bayonet scabbard so they may also have done this.

I plan to remove the paint from the scabbard but want to make absolutely certain the paint is not original. Have any of you seen a resting scabbard that was painted (other than the odd one with japanese writing on it)?
