As said by other translating members for several times, sourrounding informations and showing ALL not only a part would sometimes help a lot.
77 hfl, in Vo?ten(?) siebenundsiebzig holl.Gulden abgeliefert. Besondere(?) Quittung ist erteilt. Den Haag, Scheveningen, den 22.5.1945. 77 hfl (I think it is the abbrev. for dutch money), at Vo?ten(? cannot read this exactly) seventyseven dutch Gulden delivered. Special(? cannot read this exactly) receipt has been given. The Hague, Scheveningen (both are locations), the 22.5.1945 wotan, gd.c-b#105 "Never look for sqare eggs" as an owner of an original FHH-dagger uses to say. |

Hi Wotan,
thanks for your help. I agree that full text needs to be put for decyphering because context often makes things clear. In this case this is, in fact, the whole text. It is a note from a Soldbuch to a Polizei man in the Netherlands. Because the note dates from after the german capitulation it was of particular interest what it said. Interesting to learn that this man was paid 77 Dutch Guilders after the liberation of Holland. It now is more clear to me....it reads: "77 Hfl, in Worten (in words) Siebenundsiebzig Holl. Gülten abgeliefert..." Hfl indeed was the currency Den Haag/Scheveningen is the city of the Dutch government. My brother lives ther as do some friends of mine. thanks again |

Yesss that´s the word "in Worten". And it also makes perfect sense.
Ernst, for me, due to the text it does not seem as he got 77 guilders but he had to give away the money and got this piece of paper as receipt-confirmation. Perhaps I have done a not too good word to word translation? wotan, gd.c-b#105 "Never look for sqare eggs" as an owner of an original FHH-dagger uses to say. |

Just for info hfl stands for Hollandse florijnen or Dutch Florin, the old name for guilders. It is still used today to denote the Dutch currency and locally is abbreviated with just the "f".
