Not really translation but I wasnt sure where this topic would fit. I wondered if anybody could decipher these unit markings for me 5/J.R. 38. L .

the 5th Jnfanrty Regiment part is obvious...let me think about the 38L. Roland.

I think it might say 5th company of (J for I)Infantry Regiment 38 (the context of I.R and 38 is for sure) and the L perhaps stands for "leicht" (without heavy weapons) but I am not to sure about the interpretation of the "L".
As always it would help to have a pic!

Thanks for the help guys, not in my possesion I am afraid so cant post a pic, it appears on a K98 flashguard. Leicht = Light I take it?, possibly.
The regimental and company markings are always confusing for me, never quite sure which is which. I appreciate your time. Smile
