Gentlemen,
I'm reading a citation on a German etched dress bayonet (what else) and know what the translation means but for one word "Oberzahimeister" can anyone out there help me. Thank you in advance.

There were ranks Zahlmeister, Stabszahlmeister and Oberzahlmeister.

They were all grades of Paymaster.

In the nautics language a "Zahlmeister" is called "purser" or "stewart". The word "Ober..." indicates a higher rank like e.g. "Chief Purser" or "Senior Purser".
