Any opinions on if this bronze and leather plaque's origin, translation of text, and any idea's on who the subject is.

Gold lettering reads:
Verein Deutsche
Studenten-Fursorge
Prag

I thought it may have been from a college during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia.

Am I way off? Thanks for any help or opinions.

It looks to me like a likeness of the German Poet Goethe . The lettering says 'Club (for) German Student-Help '(actual more like "to look after " ) and location the city of Prague in Cezch Repuplic ; at that time Morevia and Boehmen as occupied by Nazi-Germany.

Dean,

I agree with Bernd, I believe it's Goethe, too.
It's the cravat that gave it away ... Smile

Best!

Thanks for your help on the id of the subject.
I thought i'd never know who it was and the input was very helpful and I think correct.
Do you think it's from the 1938-1945 era or is that impossible to say?
THANKS.

The german university in Prag was founded in 1348 bei Karl IV. In 1890 in had more then 1.400 Students and ca. 150 teachers.

I presume, that this plaque is made around 1900 before WW1.

Kolibri
