I have a SA Dagger that has an engraving on the top part of the scabbard. I think it is the soldiers name with the following

I was wondering that. Besten=best, schutzen=shooter,gunner. Do you think it is the 130th division, 4th regiment?

I do think that that is the translation and not the owners name.

What do you think the R/4 130 means? Fourth Regt of the 130th Division?

Rick, this is not a military dagger.It is an SA dagger, a paramilitary force of the NSDAP.The winner of this shooting prize was in a reserve SA regiment.It's been a while, but when the 'R' is on one side of the line, it is a reserve Sturm, and when it is on the other side, it is a reserve standarte.

So.. it is ? (whatever that is in front of ) besten schutzen v.truppe III 4/R.130

I believe it is a 'D' so we would have ..

D(der or the..) Besten (best) schutzen (shot)
v.(vom, or from) Truppe (troop) III, 4th sturm of (R. reserve) standarte 130

Are they common? Yes and no..unfortunately we see many more of these faked than real, so err on the side of caution..

thank you for all your help. I'm new to this, so I'm not sure what to ask. I own this one, it was given to me about 10 years ago by my brother. I don't know where he got it.
