Can anyone help with this translation please?
I've been told this book belonged to a young austrian girl during the 1920-30's.
Sorry the penmanship is'nt the greatest.
Thanks for your time.

It's an abridged version of a popular quote from Mein Kampf.

"Das Leben ist ein Kampf. Und wer nicht kaempfen will in dieser Welt des ewigen Ringens, der verdient das Leben nicht" A. H. (guess who)

"Life is a struggle (battle). And who(ever) doesn't fight in this world of permanent (eternal) combat, does not earn the right to life (doesn't deserve life)."

Then follows the standard dedication to the recipient "Zur freundlichen Erinnerung an deiner Turn(?)schwester" and the name, locale and date 5. Mai 1935

"in friendly memory of your "sister" in the sports club"

If it is "Turnschwester" this could be a fellow member of a sports association.

Paulj-
Thanks so much for that very interesting translation.
I found it amazing how a young woman could write this type of quote from Mein Kampf as a dedication and it just shows how patriotic and hardened this generation was.
I always wondered if those "A H" letters were in reference to Hitler as the book it is in has a hand drawn picture of Hitler and other 3rd Reich style pictures.
Turnschwester seems like your right on the money as I've been told this 'posie' book belonged to a young Austrian gymnist and dates from 1923-1936 and has about 60 pages that I'm slowly getting translated thanks to the help of kind people such as yourself.
I wonder how the original owner ever lost possession of this book and if she is still surviving today.Maybe someday I can get to the bottom of this.
Thanks once again for helping me out.

Your welcome. It was an easy read especially with the "AH" hint.

The zealousness of the population for Hitler and patriotism-nationalism is comparable to today's cult of celebrity and consumerism. Everybody got swept away without thinking. So the quote from Mein Kampf written by a teen gymnist is just a sign of the times.

I once saw a collection of hundreds of postcards sent by women to Hitler. The messages included marraige proposals and offers along the lines of "I want to have your baby."
