Moderators, if this is in the wrong forum, please move it to the correct forum and let me know.

I bought a helmet years ago with an iron cross (WWI type) on a metal background stuck on what looks like a French Firemans helmet. It does not go there, but I have often wondered if it is real. recently a friend told me it wa real and they went to an imperial helmet.

So, I thought I would post it here and see. There are 4 attaching prongs on the back. I do not know if they are original.

Here are photos.

The silver looking metal does not appear to be silver.

Hi Jim,

I don't think this came from a helmet of any kind, it's more of a rendition of the 1914 Star to the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, which was based on the older version, the Blücherstern.

I'm really not too sure what your example might have been used for? Even if the parts are "originals" of some kind, I'd say the condition would give it more-or-less a curiosity value to an Iron Cross collector.

Wish I could have told you it was worth 20K! Big Grin

Best regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the information.

I also wish you could tell me it was worth 20K, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't sitting on something worth preserving rather than watching my wife wear the helmet with this while she parties.

Any other commets are welcome.

Jim

That is a nice setup! The ek1 looks groundug, but it was a nice one before that! It's the best Blucherstern semi-fake I have ever seen.
