Nice stuff! I love imperial flight badges.

Paul, I see your Zeppelin badge has the controversial Juncker hallmarks, with the serif on top of the J, the half-moon, the crown, and the 800 for silver content.

The Observer has the more accepted Juncker hallmarks: no serif on top of the J and no crown, just the half-moon and the 800 for silver content.

I am no specialist, but I am not sure about the Zeppelin. I know that if you would post this badge on Whermacht Awards, it would get hammered. They do not like the serif and the crown over there.

Great grouping with the photo & shoulder boards~!

I have been interested in the imperial flight badges lately, since I picked up a small Bavarian Pilot Grouping.

Hi thanks for the reply I understand the hallmark 800 is controversial, the stampings though match up with Nieman's. His book is unfortunately very vague on these badges. Anyhow hammer anyway pro con

Stephane I have posted this over there and have contacted Nieman also thanks for your post always willing to learn. This is such a beautiful hunk of silver that one must automatically think it is good but you are right that 800 mark is a killer.

Thanks Paul,

Keep us posted. Imperial badges are so beautiful and interesting, too bad they are so difficult. The Zeppelin badge in particular, nobody seems to know what a real one should look like.

I find it very interesting when visiting this one sight emedals.com which has a very extensive inventory of world medals that most of their JUNKER BADGES have the 800 assay stamp even one with a Nieman paperwork.

Critiquing this myself but thanks to STEPHANE the Crown STAMPING on the ZEP badge is the real sore point .
The aviation set will soon be available on GERMAN WAR BOOTY from John

For those who expressed interest the flyer grouping is now available on the GERMAN WAR BOOTY sight , and the ZEP badge was returned after two years and accepted for refund as a high end fake
