This should be an interesting one.

This dagger appears to have been broken in the middle of the grip. The photos will show the crack all the way around and the grips being repaired.

Also, is the insert (dead center on the break) original.

I hope the photos are ok.

I plan on selling this dagger if it is ok.

Jim,

These knifes were scout knives used by teenagers. Actually used and sharpened. Not surprising some broke. Most probably got pitched, so you might have something noteworthy.

Looks to be a nice original by C. Gustav Spitzer with a zinc hilt. It's a pity the grip has been broken but it has a nice diamond and relatively un-sharpened blade maintaining a nice shape, and a good scabbard.

This is an original knife as stated earlier.

These "replacement materials" were indeed only replacements and did not have all the qualities of the original materials initially used: you will not find a steel grip that has been broken this way.
